Stephen Jondrew and Stargate Pioneer host a weekly podcast dedicated for the Hobby Podcaster with tips and tricks on how to get started, sound great, have fun and not break the bank. Each week they talk about a podcasting topic in depth within an arc (like how to start a podcast, podcast gear for the hobby podcaster, and tips on different types of presenting-announcing-hosting) and then run down a current news item of importance to podcasting. They also run down any feedback and offer advice on how to make your hobby podcasting time better, easier and more fun.

Better Podcasting – Episode 001 – The Topic

Welcome to Better Podcasting! We talk about podcast tips, tools and best practices to help you succeed with your podcast! Just like you we podcast purely out of the love and the fun of it. Podcasting is our hobby and we love that it is yours too! We always encourage your questions and feedback and you can find all of our contact information at betterpodcasting.com.

It’s our first full episode and we talk about the first thing you need to do when considering starting a podcast – The Topic! We also introduce ourselves, tell our podcasting stories, talk about our love of podcasting and define ourselves as serious podcasting hobbyists. So what’s so important about the topic for a podcast?

A podcast topic will bound what you talk about on the show and how often you can or should podcast. Other considerations a topic will define is what you can do with your format, if co-hosts make sense, and the endless possibilities podcasting afford you.

We don’t focus about making money with your podcast but before you get started if you ever do plan to make money it’s time to start defining how that will work as well. Especially if you have cohosts. In writing. Yup, you got that right. In writing.

If you are new to podcasting or you are stepping out of your comfort zone and trying different cohosts or formats that you might not be familiar with expect your first few to be rougher until you get in the grove. Also expect your format to change over time – heck, even hit television shows do that!
